I've never given these maps much thought because I never thought they would make it to consoles. Is there a lot of areas you can turn into crop land? The little bit I have seen of these logging maps it looked like they were in some pretty hilly mountain terrain.
Where you start off there seems to be quite a bit of free real estate that "ain't nobody using" and I would plow the lot of it to get up and running... where the trees are some of it is treacherous but there are patches of not so level ground...lets call them "rolling hills" lol... that you could plow out and put in small fields... which is why I think the MF pack would be a good fit for this map
this is my new idea that occured to me last night.... I posted it in an obscure Drumard Farm post so it probably won't be seen... but was wondering what everyone thinks of it here.... because the opinions here are the ones that matter.. credit goes to canadafarms for putting the idea in my head...although he doesn't know it
I really want to rant on the mission system too... I hate it... it pays too much... just like the previous versions of FS. Too me...and this is my opinion and I don't expect any of you to share it....I think the mission system would be better if replaced completely with a field leasing system... you lease a field... and you get it for a single harvest... that way you can lease fields based on current needs... just my two cents

Well it's good to know that I am an inspiration to you cr41g haha. In all seriousness though this is something that would make more sense to keep with the "sim" aspect of the game. The current missions feel arcadeish to me..... it almost feels like another game when you do them. Something like you are talking about would be much more my cup of tea, and if they still wanted missions they could offer stuff like the old system....pallet missions, mowing missions, commodity deliveries, but only a more diverse selection than what they had before. This would keep the mission lovers happy and would be much more realistic. Just to add on to your idea, I would also like to see the ability to contract services to the other farmers so you could do the harvest, seeding etc but with your own equipment, this would also be more realistic. So if you didn't lease a field that you didn't own you could still do contract services for them, and not just a timed thing where your hopper never fills up but something where you could come in, use hired help, harvest and collect the crops like you do with your own and then deliver to a sell point. For seeding or fertilizing the farmer would supply the seed and fertilizer and you would use your equipment to apply it, and if you wanted to use hired help you could, it would just be less profit. This way the more equipment you have the more contracting you could do or you could still work on your own farm while the contract work is getting done too, it wouldn't break up the flow of the game the way it does now. Sorry if I am taking this off what you had in mind, I really do like the idea of leasing the land as well.
It adds diversity to the game and is more of a complete thought than the current arcade mission system...I agree... great ideas... and like you said you really create your own profit margin by what you are willing to do based on hired workers and the equipment you use..as long as it doesnt have a time constraint added to it... I think its great.
As an aside on the leasing bit... it should be done like sealed bidding process... its not a set rate for the field lease... and two other farmers are also bidding... you need to figure out what you are willing to lease for to still be able to turn a profit IF you win the lease.. kinda like the old auctions...

I like that idea too, and if they could do the tendered bids for the leasing it would be cool if they brought back the land sale auctions for buying fields and do the tenders for this as well. The old system was too easy to manipulate but with the tendering you would have to really step up if you wanted to buy that field.

If we could clear the trees where we want to build our log cabin farm house on the Smokey Mountain Logging map. And use the trees we cut to build it. I'd rather have a sawmill where we could make boards for the house. But, we have to start somewhere. We can stack bales and pallets. Maybe it would be possible to stack logs.
I would love this feature is FS17... buildable buildings, I have said this many times before... and they go up in stages over say three days...you don't get them right away... getting stuff right away is too arcade
I like your idea Craig. Would be fun if a bunch of us tried what you said and see how different our maps turned out. I'm going to give it some thought. Problem is Stevie is releasing his new map on Sunday and it looks amazing. I'm probably gonna get stuck there.

Hi New here and noticed this thread and knew right away it was calling me to give ideas hehe. I think its been mentioned already in this thread , but I think having a daily goal can go a long way and it be a simple start. A Campaign Mode would certainly boost interest . I have some ideas on what a campaign mode would look like , but I am an inexperienced farmer on a xbox one console so any ideas I have would not be coming from a farming simulation mindset.
