so apparently the mod contest is a sham just so Giants can get scripts and content from modders without actully having to generate content themselves and a big F U to consolers.... if I am wrong please someone try and set me straight.. bacuse it isn't getting done over there... mod contest

I do see what they are getting at though, the contest is for modders and not for us. I thought it would work differently at first but I can see why it is this way. If everything had to be console compatible that would tie the hands of the modders creatively and really if you think about it it's modders who make a lot of the advances in the game. My view on it is vote for what you think is a good mod and hopefully it can be brought to the game in the future for us console guys, even if it isn't compatible now. Take the seasons mod as an example, it was stated that it took 10,000 lines of code to get it to where it is now. If they were only allowed to do console compatible mods this would never have been entered and there is a good chance they would have released it on a site other than Giants, which would mean there would never be a chance for it to be on consoles. A lot of people who play on console would love to see this in the game and maybe, just maybe having it start this way there is a chance in the future that Giants could put this in.....but if they put it on another site there would be no chance. If there is 10,000 lines of code it would be next to impossible for Giants to create their own version without using at least some of the code that the modders are already using so it probably would never get done. I don't know, but personally you can have 1,000 tractor mods that all do the same thing, it's the scripted stuff that would really be a game changer for me at least......Just my opinion, sorry this post is so long.

Don't get me wrong...I am in no way saying, nor did I say that all the mods need to be console compatable... but I do think mods should be listed as what they are compatable with to be fair to all platforms and all the consumers who put THEIR money into Giants

I know you didn't say that but some of the console players who commented did. The thing is is a lot of the entries may not be compatible now but could be after the contest so if they listed the platform beforehand, console players would just vote for console mods even though some could be console mods later, which isn't really fair to the entries. Since we can't try them I don't think its right that we (console players) can sway the vote based on something we can't try. Really looking at it now if this is the way it is, the voting should be done by external parties, like the Horsch award and not by players who could be bias based on the platform they play on and not necessarily the actual quality of the mod. This wasn't an issue before we had mods on consoles but this may have to be considered in the future because if only console mods are going to win that will turn a lot of modders off entering and then the contest will become pretty sad IMO.

So the mod contest is up... anyone with a computer.. you don't even need to own FS17...can vote on Giants modhub page. Might be a good day to update the virus protection ON EVERY computer in the office...

So are they just using the star rating like they do with all the other mods?

yup... some really interesting stuff in the mix...nothing ground breaking though..exception being SEASONS... couple of really really nice maps, BSM's MF pack and a Goweil Baler wrapper which is really really nice too... as someone who bales a lot I can get behind this thing

Oh ok, well that's kind of a sham then, you can vote as many times as you like under that system.
Im a little confused on the purpose of this machine IRL. Would seem to make more economic sense to bale in the field and save that extra step. Still a very cool mod and it must be a thing somewhere since a machine was built for it.....I just don't really get it, might have to do a little research in my spare time, see what applications this is used for IRL.

I watched a video of someone using/testing the BSM MF pack and DAMN I am in love... for a small time farmer like me it is the BOMB... I may use most of it exclusively... possibly on Drumard Farm... or if any of the modded new maps come like De Terra Italica, Forgotten Valley, Windsbach East Coast Hills or Dusty Cove

So anyone been using or been watching any more vids on the contest mods? Haven't really read that much on the other forum about them ....except for seasons, I think that will be a shoe in to take that category, and as you mentioned cr41g that MF pack seems like a hit but other than that it's been pretty quiet. I haven't even had a chance to go on my laptop and look at everything yet

I think I have watched most if not all previews done for the maps... some are really nice some are average... you can very quickly tell which have gone the extra mile with detail to make it look more real... simple things like weeds, vines, junk... its not all picture book pretty... one map which will probably never make it to console is Slovak Village which I think anyone would like. It has the decay look to it I like... and the squarish AI friendly fields most people like... AND... operating trains... yeah thats right... they went THAT far. even exceeded Giants on most accounts as all the reiussues they do including SOsnovka didn't... watch if you can.

Yeah I will maybe have to speed watch some of these vids. I have come across a bunch of them but a lot of them are 30+ minutes and I just haven't had the time lately. Should be a avalanche of mods coming to consoles after the contest..... of course the ones with the most hype won't be coming(seasons etc) but there should still be many.
