If you want pure efficiency, here is what I do. I love removing these trees and expanding field 16. I did it on fs15 as well. I just cut the tree down, then I pick up the trunk end with a front loader. I rent the logging trailer and a semi and back the trailer up so about 15-20 feet of the tree (trunk end) is in the back park of the trailer. Drop it in and strap it down with the last 3-4 straps. Then I "cross country" past the milk factory (?). I have to usually remove one tree on the southeast corner of that factory so I can fit thru there and then it's a straight shot to the lumber mill. If you load the tree parallel with the trailer, you can drive right thru the crane area and sell the whole tree. Granted I only got about $60 per tree since I didn't limb them or cut them up. But at the beginning of the game I usually just want those gone and on console that is the easiest way I have found to do that. It's not reailistic but I took out the 8-10 trees between 16 and 17 in about 40 minutes.
The straps really help. You can chop them all up and sell the wood to make better money. But that can take quite a while. I have done that before. Then I extend 16 south a little and east all the way to that little drive. Adds a lot of area to 16 - maybe like 20-25% larger. Helps in the beginning.
I hope that helps. I know it's not very realistic but that is the fastest way I have figured out to remove those trees.
Thanks
