I've asked this question of myself many times. It is the only video game I play and I play it on average about 4 hours a day. I play for a few reasons. One, I like to build stuff. Two, the options I have of how I will build my farm. Three, I enjoy thinking three steps ahead and that is important in this game. And last but not least the sounds of the tractors. It just reminds me of running my blade. Why do you play?

All the reasons you posted for sure. I grew upon a farm so its near to my heart. The replay ability is endless from maps to different equipment types if you go with a theme you can completely change the game. I love progressing at my own pace in sandbox game.

I didn't grow up anywhere near a farm and never really thought about farming. But living where I live now there are little farms here and there. Now they are very interesting to me because of my game play.

always wanted to be a farmer... the whole thing appeals to me of being your own boss and doing things on your own... I know it's hard work... and can be long hours and that you are at the whim of mother nature daily.... and this is the only way my farming dream will ever come true...lol

Never say never. We've been out of farming for about 18 years. A year ago my brother bought a 45hp JD tractor and this year we went in together on a JD 494a planter and put out an acre and a half of sweet corn! It can be done on some scale if you want:)

LMAO... preble.. firstly I would have to move... my backyard is about 50 x 24...and usually has three dogs running about... a deck, barbq and smoker... maybe if I could find a farmall cub or something I could take it apart and rebuild it.... might make me feel a little more "farmer"

Well I do farm IRL and I just plain love farming but farming IRL is pretty stressful, the markets are crazy, it's always a gamble guessing how many cattle or how much and what type of crops to grow, should I buy that machine or implement? Will it pay in the long run? Will I still have my rented land next year or is some asshole going to come and scoop it out from under me for a couple more bucks per acre? Lately in our area farming has become so competitive, so you are always getting stabbed in the back where land is concerned. Fs helps me cope with that and just relax and build my farm the way I want to. I will never get to have a lot of the cool equipment we get in the game so there is that too. For me it's just a great stress reliever and it helps me to not become a raging alcoholic haha.

Thanks canadafarms. I wondered why people who had a farm would play FS. I thought they would want to get away from it. But your reason for playing makes perfect sense.

I help out on my Grandpa's farm every spring and fall with cultivation/chiseling, and grain carting. I will say, it is much more relaxing and not as stressful as IRL. I would be fun to go 32 mpg down the field with a full cart and not be rough as hell. Can only go at least 12 mph in the field or else it gets too rough in some spots, with half a load. With a full load, it is hard to get up to speed and you can't go very fast, that's why I love FS, unrealism on that factor.

I mainly play FS 17 because it happens to be on console and because I love learning new things that I can apply to real life and I am sure I can learn some new habits in FS 17 that will help me in real life . If this was only on pc I wouldid'nt be able to play lol. I love being productive too

That's how I found it dougyhowzer. Got tired of playing football and golf. I haven't played any other game since then. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Blademaster. Yup I have probably played just about every genre out there but over the years I got bored . It wasn't until I found farming sim 15 a year ago on the console through a xbox gold sale that I found something that I could really learn and stuff . Initially I tried out logging and found myself too impatient and easily frustrated lol.
So I ended up quitting and went back to other games . Then I got bored and really disappointed and then found farming sim 17 coming out. From Early January this year all I did was pure farming made some unwise decisions that led quittinglol . Took another break. I then came back a few weeks ago and made the decision to use the ai helper system and do missions on the side .
The only other game I play is dovetail euro fishing on weekends for relaxation. Other than that , FS 17 is my main game.
