Hey all, ok so I finally put on my big boy pants and decided to learn map editing/creating in Giants Editor. Ok all I'm trying to do is remove trees and merge fields on Old Valley Farm V2. I've deleted the trees that I didn't like, saved, now I'm trying to merge and reshape some fields. I've kind of figured out how to remove the grass, but when I was trying to follow the instructions of the video I was watching I was not able to do what the instructor was doing. Up to the point of changing the texture from grass to dirt I was able to do, now I don't have any of the options the instructor does and I'm not able to go any further. I've tried the EDN website where you get the editor from but their literature and how to videos don't cover what I want to do. Do you guys have any advice or directions to go to find my answer? I thought this would be a good way to get my feet wet but I think I should of put of arm floaties lol.... Thank you for any and all help!!!!!!!!

Of course I can't help you mountaincowboy, hopefully someone else can but please keep us in the loop on how you are making out. I find GE very interesting, if I ever do go PC I really want to make a map.

I can't exactly remember it right now. I will be sure to get on my computer tonight and get you some more information about GE. There is something you have to change about the terrain and it has to be TerrainHighDetail, or something like that. That's all I remember at the moment.

I finally figured out how to get the terrain detail figured out, not sure how the heck I did it because how I watched how to do it made the editor angry. After an hour of screwing with the stupid program I finally achieved my goal and started the game with surprising results. Everything I backwardly did worked and saved. I would love to do more but all the video and text material out there makes it stupidily over complicated.

I'll definitely keep you in the loop, my end goal is to produce a map and mods that will be submitted to modhub for consoles and PC's. Hopefully, if I can outsmart an inanimate object lol.

There will be at least one thing about every one of your mods that will bring about the end of the world for some person. LOL if you figure out how you did it post some info if you don't mind creating Fields as one of the things I haven't done in GE.

I've already figured that would be the case, which is why except for in this forum with all of you, I'm not going to post anything on Giants forum about it so that I don't have to listen to the "I want this, this sucks, do this, change this," or any of the other BS that is a regular there.

I've decided to edit an existing map that I really love that is similar to the area I live, I decided this so that I can get the hang of the editor before I start a map from scratch. I had a map author suggest going about this way, so I think that's my plan of action. Does anyone know how to get ahold of the original map authors? I want to give all credit where credit is due and make anyone pissy.

Hmm, yeah I don't know, sometimes modders have a FaceBook page, some have Twitter, etc. I have actually contacted one by guess on email. I got lucky and it was actually the guy, even though I just guessed his email address and hoped for the best. Emails are not the way to go unless they have given their email address.

I think I found the author through fs-uk, I sent him/her a private message just a minute ago so I'm just waiting to hopefully hear back. If I'm able to achieve this goal of mine then console users will have an American based small town farming map with a bunch of mountainous logging area.

Good news, the map author messaged me back and gave me full permission and is happy to offer assistance if needed and gave me some insight about a couple issues that we're keeping the original map from being console compatible.... So I'm going to start a new post in the WIP thread.
